They will play in a couple of weeks, and that will help decide who will be the favorite going into this year’s 2nd Region volleyball tournament. For the moment, there is a tie at the top of the YSE 2nd Region Volleyball “Super 7.” Henderson County appears to be getting on a little bit of a roll headed down the stretch, while the Caldwell County Lady Tigers have squared off against some top flight competition. Hard to differentiate between these two until they get a chance to settle the issue on the court.

– Henderson County (13-5) – When they were at 4-5, did anyone really think the “slump” would go on all season long for the Lady Colonels. Henderson County has now won nine in a row, and look to be getting things moving in the right direction headed down the stretch.

– Caldwell County (11-6) – The Lady Tigers are coming off a big loss to Apollo, which is one of the better teams in the state, so no disgrace in losing to the E-Gals. The fashion in which they lost is something you would not like to see repeated over the next couple of weeks.

– UHA (13-5) – The Lady Blazers had a bit of a tough go of it at the All A Classic, going 2-3 against some pretty good small school competition. Now they are back home, and ready to make the push for an 8th District championship. The next week is big, with three district matchups and a showdown with Madisonville.

– Crittenden County (16-1) – Raise your hand if you had the Crittenden County Rockets reaching this point of the season with only one loss. And, they very nearly upset UHA in that one. It will be interesting to see how the Lady Rockets play at Quad State, in Paducah, and the Toyota Smackdown, in Hopkinsville, over the next couple of weeks.

– Madisonville (11-9) – The Lady Maroons went 2-3 at the Abraham Slam Jam. Three big ones coming up over the next several days against Caldwell County, Hopkins Central, and UHA. We will get a better feeling on this team once those matches are in the books.

– Christian County (8-13) – The Lady Colonels have won 4 of their last 5, with the only loss coming at Henderson County. A big one this Thursday, as they play UHA at home. A win there could put them in a tie for the top seed in the district.

– Hopkins Central (10-7) – A tough choice to move them up over Hopkinsville into this spot. However, of Hopkinsville’s three wins, two are over Fort Campbell. Meanwhile, Hopkins Central has won five in a row. Gives them the slimmest of advantages for the time being over Hoptown.
