The Lyon County girls’ soccer team came out on top of a high-scoring battle with Mayfield on Tuesday night, using 5 goals from Rose Smith to earn an 8-5 victory. The win is the fifth-straight for the Lady Lyons, running their record to 7-3 overall. The Lady Cardinals drop to 1-9-1 on the year.
Leah Schroeder and Smith both found the back of the net twice in the first half to give the Lady Lyons a 4-2 halftime lead. Elly Rhodes and Audrea Thomas each scored once for the Lady Cardinals. Smith took over after the break, notching a second-half hat trick to propel the Lady Lyons to the win. Schroeder also completed her hat trick with a second-half goal. Rhodes did her part with 2 more goals to keep Mayfield close, but it wouldn’t be enough.
Schroeder also had an assist, as did Mia Myers and Alexis Pinnegar. The Lady Lyons outshot Mayfield 27-8.
Lyon County returns to the field on Thursday when the winless St. Mary Lady Vikings make the trip to Eddyville.
