Henderson County’s Maddie Griggs scored the first four goals of the game to help the Lady Colonels beat University Heights Academy 5-0 Thursday at Givens Field. The Murray State commit now has 199 career goals and is three away from tying Berea’s Hannah Wallhauser for the most in state history.
Griggs scored her first goal 10 minutes into the contest when she took a pass and spun in front of the goal and buried the shot in the corner.
She added a goal eight minutes later for a 2-0 Henderson County lead that would stay that way at halftime.
The Henderson County senior completed the natural hat trick three minutes into the second half and added her fourth in the 54th minute. Nadia Gilbert closed out the scoring with a goal with 17 minutes left in the match.
UHA had a couple of chances to dent the scoreboard, including a shot by Grace Pape that banged off the crossbar in the second half.
Henderson County (12-1-1) is ranked in the top ten in the state, according to the Maher computer rankings, and have won five straight games – all by shutout.
UHA dropped to 8-4 with the loss and have lost two of their last three matches. They close out the district portion of their schedule Monday at Fort Campbell.
