The Caldwell County Tigers have put themselves in the drivers seat for another district championship. The Tigers went on the road Friday night and came home with a 37-22 win over Paducah Tilghman. The win was the 3rd in a row for Caldwell County, and 4th in the last five games.
Caldwell County got on the board first in the contest. Oliver Parker, who had a big game a week ago against Henderson County, picked up right where he left off. Parker found the end zone on a 32 yard reception with 7:44 to go in the first quarter to put the Tigers up 7-0. Neither team would find the end zone for the rest of the quarter.
The Tigers struck again early in the 2nd quarter, and again it was Parker. This time he was on the receiving end of a 30 yard touchdown pass from Joby Jaggers with 8:51 to go in the half to make it 14-0.
The Blue Tornado finally struck paydirt with 56 seconds to go in the half when Makel Askew took it in from two yards out on a 4th and goal to cut the lead to 14-7.
However, the Tigers got right back down the field and got a 28-yard field goal from Barett Schultz at the halftime horn to give Caldwell County a 17-7 lead at the break.
Tilghman opened the 2nd half with a long 14 play drive that capped off with a 13-yard run by Damion Ford, cutting the Caldwell County lead to 17-14 with 7:52 to go in the third quarter. Caldwell County did not take long to respond, as the Tigers scored just 1:01 later, when Joby Jaggers threw his 3rd TD pass of the night, this one to DeEric Hollowell from 15 yards out to make it 24-14 with 6:51 in the 3rd.
Just over three minutes later, Joby Jaggers threw his 4th TD pass of the night, this one a 6-yarder to Travis Newsom to extend the lead to 31-14. After a three and out for Tilghman, Caldwell County moved right back down the field, finding the end zone on Jaggers’ 5th touchdown pass of night, a 6 yarder to Jameer Riley to pull the lead out to 37-14 with 10:14 left in the game.
Tilghman was not quite done, however. Askew found the end zone from one yard out, and after the two point conversion, the lead was cut to 37-22 with 7:19 to go. Tilghman would threaten one more time, but the Tiger defense would turn them away and hold on for the win.
The win improves Caldwell County’s record to 4-2 overall, and 1-0 in the district. Tilghman falls to 4-2 on the season, and 0-1 in district play.
