Murray State Family Weekend is coming up Sept. 28-30 and over the years, it has evolved into something big to mark on the calendar for Racer students, fans, alumni and their families. It’s a weekend of festivities built around bringing people together and celebrating Murray State family.

Murray State Athletics is excited to announce several promotions to go along with this year’s theme that mirrors the popular television sitcom “Friends”, that had a 10-year run from 1994-04.

At Friday’s Soccer match against Tennessee Tech (Sept. 28), free meatball subs will be served up to Winner’s Circle members while supplies last. The match begins at 3 p.m.

The fifth annual Racer 5K is still taking entries for the 8 a.m. race that starts at the MSU Wellness Center and finishes inside Roy Stewart Stadium on the Marshall Gage Track. Click here to enter.

At Saturday’s 1 p.m. volleyball home opener at Racer Arena (Sept. 29), the Racers host Eastern Kentucky. Free coffee mugs will be given out to the first 150 fans.

Murray State Baseball has their first fall scrimmage against Rend Lake Saturday at 4 p.m. at Johnny Reagan Field.

Of course, MSU Family Weekend is highlighted by a big football game at Roy Stewart Stadium (Sept. 29). When the kickoff happens at 6p, the goal will be to set a new MSU Family Weekend attendance record and the first crowd of more than 12,000. The last time MSU had a crowd of that size was Sept. 12, 1998 when the Racers beat Western Kentucky 36-31. Before the football game, the Racer Football senior class will be recognized on the field with their families. The Family Weekend Outstanding Parents award will be presented on the field at halftime.

The weekend concludes Sunday (Sept. 30) with Racer Rifle opening the 2018-19 season at home in the Pat Spurgin Range against UTM. The Racers are back on the soccer pitch at 1 p.m. against Jacksonville State.

The Racer community can follow along and join in on the Family Weekend festivities using the hashtag #RacerFam on various social media platforms.
