The Trigg County boys’ soccer team honored its two seniors on Tuesday night, sending off Daniel Martin and Derek Frazier with a 5-0 victory over Caldwell County. Frazier, recovering from a knee injury, took the field for the first time this season and was subbed soon after kickoff. The Wildcats earn their fifth shutout of the season and improve to 10-3 overall. Caldwell County drops its fifth-straight to slip to 1-11-1 on the year.
Elijah Gaines put the Wildcats ahead 15 minutes into the game, followed 8 minutes later by Dawson Ryan’s first goal of the season for a 2-0 lead. Martin celebrated his senior night in style, netting his first goal of the year for a 3-0 lead with 8 minutes left in the half. Gaines added his second just before the break for a 4-0 halftime lead.
Trigg’s Will Jolly collected the only goal of the second half with 15 minutes to play, finishing off the 5-0 victory. Matthew Smith and Peyton Phillips played a half each at goalkeeper for the Wildcats, making a save each to combine for the win. The Wildcats outshot the Tigers 14-2.
Up next for the Wildcats is a match at UHA (7-3-1) on Thursday. The Tigers host Mayfield (6-8-1) on Monday, after falling 5-2 to the Cardinals on Saturday in the Colonel Showcase.
