Heritage Christian Academy put together a solid game but fell 4-2 to defending KCAA state champion Somerset Christian Thursday on Senior Night at Warrior Field.

The contest was a defensive battle early as neither team found the net in the first 30 minutes. However, Somerset scored twice in the final 10 minutes, with the second coming just before the halftime whistle.

The Cougars extended their lead to 3-0 early in the second half before Heritage Christian got on the board when Thomas West converted a penalty kick after he was tripped in the goal box.

After Somerset took a 4-1 lead on a 30-yard shot, Lawson Ashby scored the final goal of the contest for HCA.

“We played a solid 80 minutes of soccer today,” Warrior Coach Tony Henson said. “Our defense was very focused, and we did a good job of shutting down their usual scorers.”

The HCA coach also had high praise for his goalie Andrew Gentry.

“He had his best game of the year in goal. He played a major role in keeping us in the game.”

Somerset Christian is now 5-0 in KCAA play and ranked No. 1 in this week’s KCAA Power Poll.

Heritage Christian Academy is ranked No. 6 and fell to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play. The Warriors will travel to Trinity Christian Friday.
