Lady Falcons Can’t Sustain Leads in Loss to Muhlenberg

10-1-jones

Fort Campbell’s volleyball team is improving. Can they make enough strides in time to be a factor in next week’s district tournament? That’s the big question.

The Lady Falcons led in two of their three sets Monday with Muhlenberg County but scoring droughts at inopportune times plagued them in a 3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-15) loss Monday on post.

Fort Campbell jumped ahead 7-3 in the first set but three straight serves with no points by the Lady Falcons saw the Mustangs rally to tie the match at 11-11.

The set was tied at 15 and 17 before Muhlenberg scored three straight points to take a 21-17 lead. After a side out, the Mustangs scored the final four points to claim the set.

Fort Campbell led most of the second set, jumping out to a 15-9 lead. The Falcons kept the lead and was one point away from clinching the set at 24-21. Muhlenberg tied the set at 24, 25, and 26 before scoring the final two points for the 28-26 win. It was the sixth time Fort Campbell has scored 23 points in a set and failed to get the win.

There was no such suspense in the third set as Muhlenberg County (8-17) raced out to a 10-0 lead and won 25-15.

Freshman Diamond Jenkins had six kills for the Lady Falcons, while eighth grader Faith Kaauamo contributed four aces and two kills.

Fort Campbell (6-22) will look to get back on the winning track Tuesday at Russellville.
