Roussel’s Big Night Propels Hoptown to Semifinal Win

Any chance Fort Campbell had at pulling off a first-round upset in the Eighth District Boys’ Soccer Tournament was ended by the foot of Hopkinsville’s Ryan Roussel. The Tiger senior scored five of Hoptown‘s six first half goals and finished the game with six goals on seven shots as the Tigers beat the Falcons 8-2 Tuesday on post.

Hopkinsville advances to Thursday’s district title match where they will play University Heights Academy, a 3-1 winner over Christian County.

Zach Moore scored two goals and added an assist for Hoptown, who lead 6-0 at halftime. The Tigers scored three goals in the final three minutes of the half to double their lead.

For Campbell got on the board in the second half on a pair of goals by Jhony Paniagua.

Hopkinsville outshot Fort Campbell 22-6 in the contest as the Tiger defense did a good job of controlling everything from midfield back.

Fort Campbell’s season ends with a record of 2-10-2.

Hopkinsville improves to 13-6-2 ahead of Thursday’s district title match on post. The win was Hopkinsville’s 19th straight against district competition.
