Lady Racers Set for OVC Action Over Weekend

The Murray State soccer team kicks off a two-game weekend of Ohio Valley Conference action starting in a road matchup at Austin Peay Friday before hosting a battle against Belmont Sunday at Cutchin Field.

The Racers head into this weekend looking to build momentum after falling in a battle with UT Martin 3-1 in Martin, Tennessee. On the season, Murray State boasts an 8-3-1 record, with 6 of those victories coming at Cutchin Field. The Racers remain undefeated on home turf for the year and hope to improve their win total in their return to Murray, Kentucky, on Sunday.

Abby Jones scored the Racers’ lone goal against the Skyhawks to improve her season goal total to six. The freshman forward currently leads the OVC with seven assists followed closely by teammate Miyah Watford with five. Watford also sits at the top of OVC rankings in several offensive categories, including goals with eight and points with 21.

MATCH NOTES

The Racers have the all-time advantage over the Governors with a 12-4-2 record in previous Battle of the Border action.

In the latest installment of the OVC matchup between the two squads, MSU defeated APSU in a 1-0 battle to at Cutchin Field on October 12, 2017.

Murray State heads into Clarksville seeking their sixth win at Morgan Brothers Field, as MSU boasts a 5-1-1 record when facing the Govs at APSU.

Austin Peay enters the match with an 8-5-1 record on the year and has split in their last two OVC matches to Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State.

Belmont leads Murray State by a slim margin, as the Bruins take the 4-5-0 lead all-time. However, the Racers have won three straight matchups against Belmont dating back to 2015.

The Bruins are 5-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 in OVC action this season heading into the week.

Following the two-game weekend, the Racers will wrap up their final two games of the regular-season at Cutchin Field.  Murray State faces off against Morehead State (Oct. 19) before ending the season in a match with Eastern Kentucky (Oct. 21) in Murray, Kentucky, ahead of the OVC Tournament.
