For the first time in the five-year history of the College Football Playoff rankings, Kentucky is in the top 10. The Wildcats checked in at No. 9 in the first CFP ranking of the season released Tuesday.
Kentucky is 7-1 and having their best season in over 40 years following their improbable win at Missouri Saturday. The Wildcats are one of seven SEC teams ranked in the top 25.
Saturday, they play No. 6 Georgia for a berth in the SEC Championship Game.
Alabama, Clemson, LSU, and Notre Dame are the top four teams in the rankings with Michigan and Georgia on the outside looking in at a shot at a national championship.
Oklahoma, Washington State, Kentucky, and Ohio State round out the top 10.
The CFP rankings are released every Tuesday throughout the college football season with the top four teams in the final rankings playing what equates to a four-team tournament for the national championship.
