UHA’s Wood & Hoptown’s Folz Named to All 2nd Region Golf Team

Two area golfers are among those recognized as members of the All 2nd Region Golf Team. The Kentucky Golf Coaches Association announced the members of the teams Friday morning.

Members of the 2nd Region team included Weston Wood, from UHA, and James Folz, of Hopkinsville.

Wood produced the best finish by a University Heights Academy golfer at this year’s state tournament.The Blazer junior became the first UHA male golfer to make the cut at the Leachman Auto/KHSAA State Golf Tournament. Wood finished the tournament at +19, which was the fourth best score of any Region Two golfer. Wood was the first UHA golfer since Tadd Switzer in 2012 to qualify for the state tournament. He joins Anna Moore, who tied for 31st in the 2013 girls’ tourney, as the only UHA golfers to advance to the second round of the state tournament.

Folz had a solid season as the top golfer on the Hopkinsville High School golf team. He came ever so close to qualifying for the state tournament, shooting a 77 at the region tournament, which was just one shot away from making the trip to the state tournament.

Jackson Hill – Madisonville
Trae Barber – Hopkins Central
Trey Lewis – Ohio County

Lars King, of Daviess County, was named the Coach of the Year.
