The Kentucky high school state baseball tournament will return to Lexington’s Whitaker Bank Park in 2019 following approval Wednesday by the KHSAA Board of Control.

The University of Kentucky recently built a new on-campus baseball stadium, which could be a Plan B for the KHSAA in the future. UK formerly hosted the state tourney at Cliff Hagen Stadium before moving to the stadium of the Class A Lexington Legends.

The KHSAA also announced the 2019 state swimming and diving championships will be held at the University of Louisville with the University of Kentucky hosting the event in 2020.

The selection of a new site for the state softball tournament has been tabled to the board’s January meeting. Both UK and U of L have reportedly been interested in hosting the event since the KHSAA has opted to do away with the double-elimination format and use a 16-team, single elimination tournament starting in 2019.
