Heritage Christian Academy’s 2017-18 girls’ basketball season basically came down to two games last year, and unfortunately for the Lady Warriors they lost both.
It was still a successful run for HCA, who finished as region runner-up and state runner-up with a 23-10 record.
The Lady Warriors must replace all-state standout Rachel West and leading rebounder Hope Flournoy who both graduated. Flournoy is now playing at Welch College.
Senior Chelsea Dortch, last year’s second-leading rebounder and all-state guard, will likely see more time running the offense this year. Kaelyn Kaetzel, who was expected to see more time at point guard, transferred to Hopkinsville.
Junior Meredith Crunk and sophomores Abbi Bullock and Kinley Deason will also see more time at the guard spot.
Senior Kayley Wadlington and juniors Logan Gibson and Ashton Craft will try and fill the inside void left by West and Flournoy. Newcomer Maggie Britton will also see considerable court time for the Lady Warriors.
Coach Matt McGowan thinks the Lady Warriors can play an up-tempo style, but that will depend on how well the guards can run the offense and keep the turnovers at the minimum.
Heritage Christian is scheduled to open their season Thursday, Nov. 15 at Clarksville Christian and play in the Highlands Latin Tournament this weekend in Louisville. Their home opener is Friday, Nov. 30 when they host the KCAA Holiday Classic.
