Hopkinsville Lady Tigers Cruise Past Calloway County

The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers opened the new basketball season in impressive fashion. The Lady Tigers opened with a strong first quarter and never looked back on their way to a 60-41 win over the Calloway County Lady Lakers Tuesday night at Tiger Gym.

Behind a balanced effort, Hopkinsville got out to a 17-8 lead after one quarter. Yogi McKnight had six points in the quarter, while Jayla Rose added five.

The Lady Lakers made a strong push to battle their way back into the game in the second quarter. Calloway County outscored Hopkinsville 16-13 in the quarter to trim the Lady Tigers lead to 30-24 at the break.

Neither team got a whole lot going offensively in the 3rd quarter. Behind the play of Breon Oldham, the Lady Tigers did enough to extend their lead to 42-33 headed into the final quarter.

With Donnisha Flowers and Jayla Rose picking up the pace in the final quarter, the Lady Tigers were able to pull away. Hopkinsville outscored Calloway County 18-8 in the last quarter to pull away to the 60-41 win.

Jayla Rose led the Hoptown attack with 23 points. Breon Oldham had 11, while Yogi McKnight added ten points.

Charlie Settle had 18 points to lead Calloway County. Kaeli Puckett was the other Lady Laker in double figures with 11 points.
