Balanced Scoring Helps HCA Win Holiday Classic Opener

One of the questions facing Heritage Christian Academy Coach Matt McGowan in the preseason was the depth of his team. He liked Friday’s answer as the Lady Warriors had three players score in double figures in their 56-42 win over Somerset Christian in the KCAA Holiday Classic at Warrior Gym.

Heritage led 14-12 after one quarter and slowly extended the lead to 29-22 at halftime. With leading scorer Chelsea Dortch saddled with foul trouble, guards Abbi Bullock and Kinley Deason stepped up to each score 10 points with Deason adding six rebounds.

Kayley Wadlington had her best game of the year, scoring 12 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and recording five steals. Dortch scored seven points.

HCA was strong on the boards with Meredith Crunk leading with 10 rebounds.

Ashlan Cunnigan led Somerset Christian with 17 points. Somerset beat HCA in the consolation of last year’s Holiday Classic.

HCA will play Oak Ridge Christian Saturday morning at 11 in the semifinals of the tournament.
