Lady Tigers Fall to Union in 6th/7th District Challenge

A tough weekend for the Caldwell County Lady Tigers wrapped up Saturday with a tough loss in the 6th/7th District Challenge played at Webster County High School. The Lady Tigers battled the whole game through, but could never quite get over the hump in a 51-43 loss to Union County.

The two teams went toe to toe in the early going. The Bravettes were able to take a 12-11 lead after the opening quarter.

Both teams battled ball security in the first half, combining to commit 32 turnovers. Union County was able to get just enough done on the offensive end to extend their lead to 24-21 at the half.

The Bravettes came out of the locker room and immediately took control of the game in the opening minutes of the second half. Union County scored the first8 points of the half to move out to a 32-21 lead. The Lady Tigers however refused to go away, battling back to cut the lead to 36-31 by the end of the quarter.

Caldwell County continued their push to get back in the game in the final quarter. The Lady Tigers would get as close as two points early in the 4th, but the Bravettes were able to stave them off and hold on for the eight point win.

Karsyn Parker led the Caldwell County effort with 11 points. Jada Boyd had 10 points, while Jacey Jaggers added 9. Union County was led by Courtlyn Beaven with 16 points, while Jocelyn Spaulding added 14.

The loss drops Caldwell County to 1-2 on the season. They return to action Tuesday night at home against Crittenden County.

Union County improves to 2-1.
