One day after an emotional district win over Crittenden County, the Trigg County Lady Wildcats dropped a pair of games Saturday in the Whitesville Trinity Shootout. Trigg lost the opener to Ohio County 50-30 and later the nightcap to Owensboro 73-48.
Against Owensboro, Trigg County trailed 11-2 early but scored nine straight points, sparked by a pair of Bethany Stallons 3-pointers, to tie the game with 3:09 left in the opening frame.
The Lady Devils led Trigg 19-17 after one quarter but used a 9-2 run to start the second quarter, and the Lady Wildcats never got any closer. Owensboro equaled their longest lead of the first half when they took a 34-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Owensboro turned up the pressure in the third quarter, scoring seven points off five Trigg turnovers. An 11-3 run to start the quarter pushed the lead into double figures for good.
Trigg County got balanced scoring, but they just didn’t enough of it. Emily Noffsinger scored 10 points for the Lady Wildcats, with Rylee Bush scoring eight and grabbing 12 rebounds. Stallons and Adri Phillips also scored eight points with Phillips adding eight rebounds.
Freshman Amaya Curry scored 23 points to lead Owensboro (4-0)
In the opener against Ohio County, the Lady Wildcats struggled out of the gate and fell behind 12-1 after one quarter. However, Ohio County’s penchant for turnovers kept the Lady Wildcats in the game. They committed 11 first half turnovers and led 22-14 at halftime.
Ohio County used a 13-2 run midway through the third quarter to take full control of the contest.
Rylee Bush scored 14 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Lady Wildcats. Bethany Stallons added six points.
Kate Edge led Ohio County (3-0) with 15 points.
Trigg County (1-2) will travel to University Heights Academy Tuesday.
