Hopkinsville’s wrestling team got off to a solid start at their first meet of the year at the Reitz Hill Classic in Evansville Saturday.
Zlatko Skuljan opened his wrestling season in dominant fashion with five pins in five matches to win first place in the 170-pound division.
Kevonni Young won a major decision over Posey’s Derek Hollinger to win third place in the 145-pound class.
Jordan Hopson won three matches, including a pin of Jasper’s Luke Ruckriegel, to finish fifth in the 160-pound class.
Xavier Sewell won a pair of matches to finish sixth in the 152-pound class and claim five points.
Denarius Barnes won two matches and finished seventh in the 220-pound class.
Jaelin Smith finished eighth in the 138-pound class to score three points for the Tigers.
Hopkinsville only took eight wrestlers to the event but finished in eighth place out of 11 teams with 65 points.
