Lyon County’s young guns came up big and had to dig deep when their senior leader left with an injury in a 73-65 district win over Livingston Central Tuesday in Eddyville.
Freshman Jackson Shoulders scored 24 points, and seventh grader Travis Perry added 16 as the Lyons held off a late Cardinal rally. Sophomores Trey Hawkins (10 points) and Kade Blackburn (9 points) also helped the Lyons jump out to a 18-8 first quarter lead and 34-26 by halftime.
Gabe Board, Lyon County’s leading returning starter, suffered a leg injury in the first half and did not play in the second half. He finished with seven points.
Lyon County’s ability to pull away from Livingston was hampered by 5-of-15 shooting at the foul line.
Livingston Central (2-3) trailed 59-45 after three quarters but got the deficit down to six at one point in the fourth quarter. T-Roy Ringstaff scored 11 of his 24 points in the third quarter. He knocked down four 3-pointers on the night. Max Downey added 17 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter when the Cardinals mounted their late rally. Cameron Head scored eight points.
