The Heritage Christian Academy boys’ basketball team fell 77-62 to visiting Galilean on Saturday, snapping a 4-game winning streak. The Warriors slip to 5-2, while the Eagles remain unbeaten at 8-0. The 15-point win is the closest game Galilean has played this season.
After Rajah Mills hit one of two free throws to tie the game with 4:07 left in the first quarter, Galilean closed on a 10-2 run to lead 19-11. With 2:50 to play in the first half, a 3-pointer by Caleb Lewis gave the Eagles a 34-18 advantage. The Warriors responded with a 9-1 spurt capped by a Mills layup, but a late Lewis layup gave Galilean a 37-27 halftime edge.
Galilean had the answer for every HCA run in the third quarter, with two Mills free throws pulling the Warriors as close as they’d get at 46-39 with 2:39 left. Gavin Fowler scored and drew a foul with :04 on the clock, part of his 9-point quarter, but missed the free throw and the Eagles led 59-47.
Just over a minute into the final quarter, the Warriors’ Lawson Ashby connected on a 3-pointer to trim the lead to 5. But they couldn’t get any closer, with the Eagles’ Caleb Burrows hitting 5 of 6 free throws to seal the victory.
Fowler fouled out with 19 points to lead the Warriors, followed by Mills with 18, including 8 in the fourth quarter. Lewis finished with 21 for the Eagles, Lee Van Lew scored 19, and Burrows had 16.
