Just when you think it would be hard for 7th grader Travis Perry to top what he has already done this season, the kid goes and does it again. Perry hit a three to complete a Lyon County rally and send the Lyons game with Webster County to overtime Tuesday night. Then, in the overtime, Perry hits the game winning free throws as the Lyons knock off the Trojans in a thriller 67-65 in Eddyville.

Webster County’s defense seemed to be in control of things through the first three quarters. The Trojans led 14-11 after the first quarter, and extended the lead to 33-22 at the break.

The defense got even tighter in the 3rd quarter, as Webster County held the Lyons to only 8 points, and pulled the lead out to 44-30. Then it was time for the “younguns” to take over the game for Lyon County.

Behind the play of Perry and freshman Jackson Shoulders, the Lyons roared back. The pair combined to score 21 of the Lyons 25 points in the quarter, capped off by Perry’s 3 with 11 seconds to go.

The game stayed tight through the overtime, with Perry’s free throws with seven seconds left deciding the game.

Perry led the Lyons with 29 points, while Shoulders added 22 of his own.

Hunter McNaughton topped Webster County with 18, while Malachi Douglas added 13.

With the win, the Lyons improve to 5-3 on the season.
