Slow starts had plagued Trigg County in their first two games of the KME Christmas Classic at Wildcat Gym. They scored 50 points in their two games Thursday, winning one and losing one. There was no slow start in their game with Hickman County Friday to determine third place. The Wildcats hit 9-of-13 shots in the first quarter and used a 21-2 first half run to take control on their way to a 70-35 win.
Trigg continued their torrid pace in the second quarter as they hit 7-of-14 shots and built a 59-24 lead at halftime. Kyron Grubbs scored 12 of his 14 points in the first half and had a stat line for the game that included seven rebounds, six steals and six assists.
In the second half, Haydon Cunningham scored 12 of his 18 points, and finished 5-of-10 from 3-point range. Trigg County’s bench outscored Hickman’s 35-9 in the win.
Hickman County (4-8) got 11 points and five rebounds from Cameron Johnson.
Trigg County (6-5) will play in the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic in Pinckneyville, Ill. Dec. 27-29.
