One thing has been known from the beginning of the 2018-2019 basketball season. While the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers have seen their troubles at times shooting the ball, their defense has never been in question. The defense was again on exhibit Thursday afternoon in the Lady Tigers opening game of the FNB Holiday Bash at South Warren, as Hopkinsville cruised by Apollo 52-37.

After spotting Apollo the first five points of game in the opening quarter, the Lady Tigers came roaring right back. Hopkinsville limited Apollo to just two points over the final six minutes of the quarter and took a 12-7 lead after one. Jayla Rose had a huge first quarter, scoring 10 of the Lady Tigers 12 points.

The Hopkinsville defense continued its dominance in the 2nd quarter of play. The Lady Tigers limited the E-Gals to just 8 points in the quarter, as Hopkinsville took a comfortable 26-15 lead into the locker room at the break.

Apollo finally got to double digits in a quarter in the 3rd, but just barely. The E-Gals put up 11 in the quarter, but gained no ground on the Lady Tigers. The quarter ended with Hopkinsville up 41-26.

Not much changed in the 4th quarter. Hopkinsville’s defense kept the clamps down on the E-Gals offense, while the Lady Tigers offense kept getting enough done to never let Apollo get back in the game.

Jayla Rose led the way for Hopkinsville with 22 points. Breon Oldham also reached double figures with 12. Donisha Flowers had 8 points, while Yogi McKnight added 7.

Lexi Shadowen was the only E-Gal to reach double figures with 14.

Hopkinsville improves to 10-4 with the win. Apollo falls to 8-4.
