Continuing offensive struggles sent the Lyon County Lady Lyons to their 3rd straight loss Friday afternoon. The Lady Lyons only reached double figures in the 4th quarter as they fell to Carlisle County 41-35 in the 1st Lady Warrior Shootout at Community Christian Academy.
The game was a defensive struggle from the very beginning. The Lady Comets limited Lyon County to just seven points in the opening quarter, but managed only nine of the their own to take a 9-7 lead after one.
The Lady Lyons defense was the story in the 2nd quarter, as Lyon County held Carlisle County to just one field goal and three free throws in the quarter. However, the Lady Lyon offense contiued to have struggles of its own, and the two teams went into the break tied 14-14.
The two teams played dead even in the 3rd quarter. Each team scored three field goals and three free throws. The quarter ended in a 23-23 tie. Alison Murphy had a big quarter for the Lady Lyons, scoring seven points in the quarter.
As the game rolled down the stretch, free throws were crucial. The Lady Comets hit 12 of 17 from the line in the final quarter, while the Lady Lyons were 5 of 9, as Carlisle County picked up the win.
Alison Murphy had a double-double for Lyon County with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Rose Smith had 8 points. Calista Collins only had four points, but picked up 13 rebounds.
Landry Crider and Mollie Henderson had 12 points each for Carlisle County.
Lyon County fall to 4-6, while Carlisle County moves to 10-1 on the season.
