Webster County has strengthened it’s hold atop the YSE Girls Basketball Super 7 after completing an unbeaten record against region competition. It took until after Christmas before the Lady Trojans lost their first game. Hopkinsville, Henderson County, and Christian County appear to be a step behind at this point with Madisonville a step behind that group.
1) Webster County (13-1) – The Lady Trojans won their first 12 games of the season, including an Owensboro Invitational Tournament title, before dropping their first game Thursday to Riverdale, Tenn. by nine points. Once the calendar flips to 2019, Webster will have consecutive district games with Union County and Henderson County.
2) Henderson County (6-2) – The Lady Colonels won all three of their games before Christmas in the Marshall County Holiday Classic and won’t return to the court until Jan. 4 contest at Hopkins County Central. They will meet No. 1 Webster County for the first time this season Jan. 8.
3) Hopkinsville (11-5) – The Lady Tigers were cruising right along until they put up a clunker in a 28-point loss to Calloway County at the Owensboro Invitational Tournament, just weeks after opening the season with a win over the Lady Lakers. However, they rebounded with solid wins over Apollo and Breckinridge County at South Warren after Christmas.
4) Christian County (7-5) – The Lady Colonels get some much needed rest after splitting four games at the Queen of the Commonwealth before Christmas. They will host Barren County Jan. 4 and then play three straight games against Eighth District opponents.
5) Madisonville (9-3) – The Lady Maroons are thumping the teams ranked behind them and getting thumped by the teams ahead of them. After losing two of three at the Owensboro Invitational Tournament, they bounced back with an impressive 10-point win over Muhlenberg County.
6) Caldwell County (6-6) – The Lady Tigers are back at .500 where they have been for most of the season. They split their games at the West Kentucky Hoops Classic after Christmas and jump into the first of three straight district games Thursday at Dawson Springs.
7) Hopkins County Central (6-6) – Hopkins Central has started to piece together some wins during the holiday break but will have tough games with No. 2 Henderson County and No. 6 Caldwell County when the kids return to school from break.
