Christian County won the consolation bracket of the 32nd annual Poplar Bluff Shootout Saturday with a 52-48 win over Kirby High from Memphis.

The Colonels didn’t shoot a free throw in the first half and hit just enough – 6-of-13 – in the second half to get the win.

Christian County led 14-9 after one quarter, but Kirby used a 16-10 second quarter run to grab a 25-24 halftime lead. The teams were tied at 34 heading into the fourth quarter.

Damikeon Mathis scored 16 points to lead the Colonels, with eight coming in the decisive fourth quarter. Eric Brody added 12 points, and Fred Tandy scored seven.

DaQuarius Harris led Kirby (6-7) with 20 points.

After losing their tournament opener by 40 points, the Colonels bounced back to win their final two games and claim fifth place in the prestigious tournament.

Christian County (8-6) will play at McCracken County Thursday as part of McCracken County’s annual Mustang Madness.
