If an opponent can’t score, it will be hard for them to win a basketball game. The Lyon County Lady Lyons lived by that statement in their second game of the day Saturday at the 1st Lady Warrior Shootout at Community Christian Academy. The Lady Lyons gave up only seven points over the first three quarters of the game as they cruised by Pope County 41-19.
The Lady Lyons gave up only a two point basket and a free throw in the opening quarter as they jumped out to an 11-3 lead. It got even tougher for Pope County in the second quarter as Lyon County shut them out and extended the lead to 24-3 at the break.
Not much changed for the Lady Lyons in the third quarter. They limited Pope County to a three point basket and a free throw as they pushed the lead on out to 37-7.
Numerous reserves saw action in the final quarter, as Pope County trimmed the margin to the final deficit of 22 points.
The Lady Lyons were led by Allison Murphy with 7 points and 14 rebounds. Bell Ortiz also had seven points. Kentavia Matthews added 6 points.
Amy Weaver had 8 to lead Pope County.
The Lady Lyons improve to 6-6. They return to action January 4, when they host Crittenden County.
