
Trigg County wrapped up play in the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic Saturday with a pair of losses to Illinois schools.
The Wildcats began the day with a 63-40 loss to Roxana High. Trigg took an early lead in the contest, but the Shells bounced back to take a 13-8 lead after one quarter. They extended it to 30-18 at halftime as they hit 12-of-23 shots from the field in the first 16 minutes.
Trigg shot well in the first half, but turnovers were again their undoing. For the third straight game, the Wildcats committed over 20 turnovers (21). They led to 24 Roxana points.
Kendric Adams was the lone Wildcat to score in double figures with 12 points. Shaun Terrell and Khyran Vaughn each scored five points.
Roxana hit 8-of-13 from 3-point range, while Trigg was 1-of-8. Gavin Huffman hit five of the 3-pointers and finished with 19 points for Roxana (7-8).
In their final game of the day, the Wildcats were done in by a second quarter blitz in a 62-55 loss to Trico. The Pioneers used a 20-6 run to turn an 18-10 Trigg lead after one quarter into a 30-24 Trico lead at halftime.
Trico shot 57-percent from the field and scored 34 points in the paint.
The Pioneers led 21 points with 5:37 left before the Wildcat chipped away at the deficit before falling by seven points.
Kyron Grubbs led the Wildcats with 19 points and nine steals. Gavin Grubbs had 11 points and three assists, and Kendric Adams scored nine.
Trico (4-10) got 18 points off the bench from Issac Kranawetter.
Trigg County finished their Illinois trip 0-4 and falls to 6-9 on the season. They return to action Friday at Livingston Central in a Fifth District contest.
