It was a night where nothing went right for Heritage Christian Academy as the Lady Warriors suffered their worst KCAA loss in seven years with a 48-19 setback against Oak Ridge Christian Tuesday night at Warrior Gym.
The Lady Warriors played well in the first quarter, trailing 11-9 after eight minutes. However, they had a tough time adjusting to the diamond-and-one defense Oak Ridge was playing on HCA’s leading scorer Chelsea Dortch. She didn’t score in the first half, and Oak Ridge used a 14-0 second quarter to run grab a 25-9 lead at halftime. HCA would get as close as 11 points in the third quarter but get no closer.
Not helping matters was a third quarter injury to second-leading scorer Kinley Deason that sidelined her the rest of the game.
Deason scored six points, and Dortch scored four. Abbi Bullock also scored six points for the Lady Warriors. Kayley Wadlington had two points and eight rebounds.
Gracie Clark, an all-state performer as a sophomore, scored 21 points, including a meaningless 3-pointer at the final horn as both teams were walking off to floor.
The 29-point loss is HCA’s worst to a KCAA team since a 51-18 loss to Bluegrass Christian Feb. 18, 2012.
Oak Ridge is the top-ranked team in the latest KCAA Power Poll while HCA was ranked third.
Heritage Christian (6-6) will host Somerset Christian Saturday.
