Hoptown Survives Doss Triples to Win Third Straight

Hopkinsville raced out to a big lead then survived a rash of three-pointers by Doss late to grab a 77-63 win over the Dragons in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Classic Saturday at Christian County.

The Tigers got balanced scoring throughout the contest four players reached double figures. Hoptown used a solid inside-out game in the first half to build a 40-19 lead with 2:34 left in the first half.  Doss scored the final six points of the half to trail 40-25 at intermission.

Doss outscored Hoptown 19-12 in the third quarter to pull to within 52-44 after three quarters.

Hoptown turned up the heat in the fourth quarter and attacked the rim, which resulted in 18 free throw attempts in the final quarter.  The Tigers hit 10.

Doss stayed in the game by knocking down six 3-pointers — five by Terrell Taylor, who finished with a game-high 28 points.

Jacarius Burks finished with 22 points, six rebounds, and six assists.  Reece Jesse added 17 points, and James Nicholas and Jamarion Sharp each scored 11 points.  Sharp also had seven rebounds and eight blocked shots.

The Tigers shot 58-percent from the field and outrebounded Doss 33-29.

Hopkinsville (11-8) has now won three straight games and will play at Clarksville Northeast Wednesday.
