Todd County Central’s girls couldn’t spring the upset two nights in a row.
After shocking Russellville 52-50 in overtime on Thursday, the Lady Rebels fell to Metcalfe County 72-50 Friday night in the championship game of the 4th Region All ‘A’ Classic in Elkton.
Todd (3-12) looked ready for another surprise early on though, leading Metcalfe 11-9 after one quarter.
But the Lady Hornets (15-3) turned things around in a big way in the second period. Metcalfe outscored Todd 25-8 in the stanza to get to halftime with a 34-19 advantage.
Metcalfe stretched its advantage to 55-34 through three quarters while earning a trip to the All ‘A’ Classic state tournament in Richmond next week.
Macy Welsh poured in 28 points to lead Metcalfe. Kaylee Harbison added 13 points and Jaycie Harper added 10.
Paige Rager scored 17 points to lead the Lady Rebels. Amy Brumfield added 12.
Metcalfe will face Louisville Holy Cross in a first round match at 10 a.m. Eastern time on Wednesday at Eastern Kentucky University’s McBrayer Arena.
Next on the Todd County Central schedule is a home date against Clarksville Academy on Monday.
