Caldwell Wrestlers Snag Eighth Place at Fort Knox

Caldwell County finished eighth at the Fort Knox wrestling Invitational Saturday, with one Tiger wrestler taking first place.

Seth Slayton took first place in the 170-pound class. Slayton, who is ranked No. 9 in the weight class by Kentuckywrestling.com, beat Trinity’s Jon-Michael Gaudin (No. 13), No. 17 Sean Lohden of Bullitt East, and No. 11 Klemmer Nicodemus of Ohio County on his way to the title.

Riley Johnson finished third in the 106-pound class. After losing to Cooper’s Hunter Sproles (No. 16) in a 12-9 decision in the semifinals, Johnson beat Conner Madison of North Hardin with a quick pin in the consolation semifinals. He was awarded third place by forfeit. Johnson is ranked No. 15 at 106.

Colin Walls finished third in the 145-pound class. He won his first two matches before losing to Jackson Grimsley of Taylor County. After beating Lafayette’s Thomas Haggan 4-0 in the consolation semifinals, Walls won by forfeit in the third place match.

Other wrestlers who won matches but did not place were:

Dylan Walls, who entered the weekend ranked No. 9 in the state at 120, won three matches, with his two losses coming to the fourth and 12th ranked wrestler statewide in the class.

John Paredes, who entered the weekend ranked No. 17 in the state at 152, won three matches before falling to No. 12 Cole Nance of Anderson County 9-4 in the consolation semifinals.

James Jones won two matches at 126, and Aaron Hensley won two matches at 138.

As a team, Caldwell County scored 90 to finish in eighth place out of 23 teams.
