After trailing the host UHA Lady Blazers at the half in the teams’ 8th-District clash on Tuesday night, the Christian County girls’ basketball team roared back in the second half to claim a 68-37 victory. The Lady Colonels have won five of six to improve to 12-7, a perfect 4-0 in district play. The Lady Blazers drop their second-straight to move to 12-8 overall, 1-3 against district competition.
Talitha Bryant scored 4 early points and the Lady Colonels led 6-0, forcing a UHA timeout. The lead was 11-2 with just under 3 minutes left in the first quarter, and Christian County took an 8-point edge in the second quarter.
Anna Moore opened the quarter with a 3-pointer, starting a 10-0 UHA run that gave them a 20-15 advantage. A Trinity McGee bucket and a 3 by Destinee Catlett-Watkins pulled the Lady Colonels even, but Alex Juckett hit a half-court 3 at the buzzer, the last of her 10 second-quarter points, for a 23-20 Lady Blazer lead at the half.
The Lady Colonels began their comeback in the third quarter behind 16 points from Aaliyah Hampton. Hampton knocked down a 3-pointer to regain the lead and start a 10-0 spurt, building a 35-27 advantage with 3:27 left in the third. After Aisha Pantiere came up with a steal and a layup for UHA, the Lady Colonels closed on an 8-0 run to open up a 14-point margin.
Hampton converted 2 free throws to give Christian County its first 20-point lead with 3:51 to play, and they cruised in for the 31-point victory.
Hampton’s 26 points led all scorers, with 22 coming after halftime, with Trinity McGee adding 13.
Juckett was the only Lady Blazer in double figures with 12, followed by Meghan Adams with 7.
