The UHA Blazers appear to have firmed their grip up on the top spot in the region, but Madisonville is still right on their heels. The middle of the pack sees very little change, except for the volatile Caldwell County Tigers jumping back into the “Super 7” after a good week. Things are shaping up to be very interesting once tournament play starts in less than three weeks.

1. UHA (22-3) – The Blazers have now won 7 in a row, and 13 of their last 14. UHA was also impressive during the run to the All A state championship in Richmond. As of this point, the Blazers stand as the favorite to win the 2nd Region

2. Madisonville (17-5) – The Maroons continue to be right over the shoulder of the Blazers. Madisonville has now won 10 in a row, as these top two teams keep inching away from the pack. After surviving a tight one against O-Cath, there is a chance the Maroons could run out the rest of the regular season.

3. Hopkinsville (13-9) – The Tigers have won five of their last six, with the only loss being one of those “across the lakes” trips into the 1st Region. We will get a good idea of where this team stands headed towards the postseason Friday when they go on the road to Henderson and then take on Christian County Saturday afternoon.

4. Christian County (12-12) – The southern Colonels might well be the best .500 team in the state and a very dangerous team headed into the postseason, especially if they end up in the #2 vs #3 game in the 8th District tournament. A huge game Saturday against Hopkinsville.

5. Henderson County (12-8) – The Colonels from the north picked up solid 6th District wins over Webster County and Union County. Let’s see what they do Friday night against Hopkinsville on the Colonels home floor. A win firmly puts them in the darkhorse category for the regional title.

6. Caldwell County (14-7) – The Tigers will drive you crazy trying to figure them out. Losses to Webster and Hopkins Central left you wondering. Then, they pick up easy wins over Trigg, Lyon, and Hopkins Central. One of those teams, where on any given night, anything could happen one way or the other.

7. Lyon County (14-8) – The Lyons firmly took one in the grille, losing by 30 points to Caldwell County, who they beat by 11 in the season opener. Lyon is clearly the class of the 5th District, but the question becomes can they parlay that into causing some regional havoc.
