Lady Colonels Score Final 48 Points in Win Over Fort Campbell

Not only will they be the top seed in the girls 8th District Tournament, but they will do so without a blemish on their district record. The Christian County Lady Colonels moved to 6-0 in district play by easlily handing the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons 69-8 Monday night at Colonel Gym.

The game was never in doubt as the Lady Colonels came roaring out of the gate on the way to their 4th straight win and seventh in the last eight games. Aaliyah Hampton scored the first six points of a 16-0 run by Christian County to open the game. Fort Campbell finally got on the board with 1:45 to go in the quarter on a long three pointer by Danielle Houston to make it 16-3. The Lady Colonels added a three late in the quarter to make it 19-3 after one.

The Lady Falcons opened the 2nd quarter with a little offensive flurry. Fort Campbell outscored the Lady Colonels 5-2 to open the quarter and cut the lead to 21-8. The Lady Colonel 2nd team then took over the quarter, outscoring the Lady Falcons 15-0 to finish the quarter and take a 36-8 lead into the locker room. Leila Lee and Destinee Catlett-Watkins had big minutes during the quarter for the Lady Colonels.

The Christian County reserves kept things rolling in the 3rd quarter. As Fort Campbell struggled to shoot over the Lady Colonels 2-3 zone, Christian County was able to get several breakaway layups. By the end of the quarter, the Lady Colonels had extended their run to 35-0, and the lead to 56-8.

Not much changed during the 4th quarter, as the Lady Colonels held the Lady Falcons scoreless for the entire second half as they push the margin on out to the final of 69-8. Christian County scored the final 48 points of the contest holding Fort Campbell without a point for the final 22:21 of the ballgame.

Christian County was paced by Leila Lee with 16 points. Serenity Shemwell and Destinee Catlett-Watkins scored 14 points each. Danielle Houston was the leading scorer for the Lady Falcons with 6 points. Asia Cabili had the other basket for the Lady Falcons.

With the win Christian County improves to 14-7 over all and 6-0 in 8th District play. Fort Campbell falls to 0-21 overall and 0-5 in the district.
