On Friday night, Todd County Central High School announced its 2018 Hall of Fame inductees at halftime of the Senior Night basketball game with Russellville. The four inductees were selected on the basis of significant achievements in their chosen fields or professional services, and noteworthy contributions to society as positive role models in their community.
The first inductee was Robert “Bob” Nelson Bush. Mr. Bush was represented by his son, Robert Bush and daughter, Anne Bush Wolfe. Mr. Bush was a teacher, principal of Elkton High School, the first principal of Todd County Central High School, and eventually superintendent of Todd County Schools.
William “Bill” Longhurst Jr. was represented by his wife, Elaine Longhurst and sons, Russ and Glen. Mr. Longhurst’s family business, Longhurst General Store, was an iconic piece of Guthrie Main Street. Through his business, Mr. Longhurst was a dedicated community leader in Todd County.
Stanley Gail Russell was represented by his wife, Bennie Russell and daughters, Angela McKee and Gail Young. Mr. Russell was an active civic, community, and business leader in the area of civil rights. He was a member of the first graduating class of Todd County Central High School in 1964.
Angela Payne Starnes won 7 state titles for the Lady Rebels, and set the 1A state record in the 100-meter dash in 1980, a mark that still stands. She also set the Murray State University womens’ indoor record in the 55-meter dash in 1983. She has since retired after 27 years of teaching in Kentucky.
