After recent turmoil, Kentucky football’s defensive coordinator Matt House has made a final decision to leave the program. Originally, House was offered the position of Linebacker’s Coach in Kansas City. However, a potential $150,000 buyout with Kentucky swayed his decision to stay put in Lexington.

On Tuesday morning, though, Kentucky Sports Radio originally reported that House is indeed leaving the Kentucky Wildcats for the Kansas City Chiefs. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will reportedly pay for House’s buyout.

House will step in and coach a linebacker core that ranked 27th against opposing rushing attacks last season.

House’s departure comes after Kentucky’s defense had a generational season. Kentucky spent most of the year ranked atop the nation in multiple defensive categories. The unit’s production comes without mentioning the top-tier talent they faced each week in the NCAA’s most prolific football conference.

With the defense graduating six starters, a step back in production was expected from Kentucky’s strong suit. Now, with House departing for the NFL, a legitimate setback wouldn’t come as a surprise.

The Wildcats’ scheme is ultimately created by head coach Mark Stoops, though, and he’ll surely have a replacement announced soon. Multiple members of the media have generated interest in the direction of outside linebackers coach Brad White to replace House.
