Allison Murphy Posts Double-Double in Lady Lyons’ Senior Night Win

Allison Murphy has meant so much to Lady Lyon basketball that they put her uniform number on the scoreboard Thursday night.

No. 33 tallied 16 points and 12 rebounds in her last game at Jason White Gymnasium in Eddyville as Lyon County’s girls defeated Hopkins County Central 33-26 in the regular-season finale for both schools.

Murphy, the Lady Lyons’ lone senior this season, has topped both 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career at Lyon.

The Lady Lyons will carry a 14-10 record into postseason play — the sixth straight year Lyon has a secured a winning season, which is a school record.

Lyon never trailed on Senior Night, using a 12-0 run in the first half to turn a 5-4 edge into a 17-4 advantage following a Murphy 3-pointer.

The Lady Lyons held Hopkins Central (12-15) to just two field goals in the first half while building a 19-8 margin at halftime.

Lyon led by as much as 14 points in the third quarter before the Lady Storm tried to make things interesting late.

A 3-pointer by Keira James made it a 27-22 game with 1:03 left. But Hopkins Central could get no closer.

Cathryn Brown added six points for the Lady Lyons while KentTavia Matthews had five points and eight rebounds. Rose Smith added four points and five boards.

Keke Ikeard led the Lady Storm with eight points. James finished with seven and Maddie Tow added six.

Lyon’s girls next face Livingston Central in the semifinals of the 5th District tournament Tuesday night in Smithland.
