Success for the 2nd Region team that wins the All A regional does not always carry over into a chance to win a trip to the Sweet 16. In fact, in the 30 years that that All A Classic has been a statewide event, only eight times has the winner of the All A 2nd Region been the team that went on to Rupp Arena. Only two schools have been able to pull off the feat.
The UHA Blazers, who have managed to win both tournaments seven of the eight times that it has been done, are looking to pull it off in back-to-back years for the 3rd time. The Blazers won both tourneys in 1992, 1994, 1995, 2004, 2005, 2008, and 2018. An interesting note is that the UHA team that lost in the All A semifinals in 1992 would come back and win the 1992 KHSAA State championship, in a year where the game was played at Freedom Hall, in Louisville.
The only other team to pull off the “double” regional win was the 1996-1997 Trigg County Wildcats. After winning the All A Classic, which included a win over UHA, Trigg County defeated Union County, UHA , and Christian County to advance to the Sweet 16.
UHA has a total of seven 2nd Region Boys championships, while Trigg County has two.
