Fresh off their region title, Heritage Christian Academy opens play in the KCAA Boys’ State Basketball Tournament Friday night at Asbury University.

The Warriors (20-9) are the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will play six seed Cornerstone Christian Academy, who knocked off 11-seed Micah Christian 74-40 in a first round game at 8:30. A win by the Warriors will move them into Saturday afternoon’s semifinals against No. 2 Community Christian or No. 7 Oak Ridge.

Friday will mark the first game between HCA and Cornerstone since 2014 when the Warriors were handed a 72-47 loss at Warrior Gym. The Warriors were 5-4 against league competition during the season, while Cornerstone was 13-7. Cornerstone, located in Shelbyville, finished as Region Three runner-up.

HCA advanced to the quarterfinals of the state tournament last year where they lost to eventual state runner-up Trinity Christian 69-51. The Warriors have not advanced to the state semifinals since 2014 and last won a KCAA state title in 2013.
