The start couldn’t have been much better for Madisonville-North Hopkins.
The Lady Maroons ran out to an 11-4 lead and appeared to shock Henderson County early.
But the Lady Colonels regrouped behind a relentless full-court press. Henderson forced Madisonville into 28 turnovers while roaring back for a 52-42 victory Monday night in the semifinals of the girls’ 2nd Region Tournament in Marion.
Madisonville (23-8) still led 11-7 after one quarter, but the Henderson press took its toll in the second period.
By halftime, the Lady Colonels had taken a 23-16 lead on the way to beating Madisonville for the 42nd straight time dating back to 1987.
Henderson led 35-26 through three quarters.
Alyssa Dickson had 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals to lead Henderson (17-8), which advances to Tuesday’s 7 p.m. regional championship game.
The Lady Colonels, the 6th District runners-up, also got 11 points from Emilee Hope and eight from Katie Bebout.
Freshman Camryn LaGrange led 7th District champion Madisonville with 20 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists, but also committed 15 turnovers against the Henderson press.
Courtney Peyton added 11 points and four rebounds for the Lady Maroons.
