Region Coaches Pick Christian County to Repeat as Softball Champs

With the start of the season less than two weeks away, Second Region softball coaches have given the preseason nod to defending region champions Christian County to repeat.

The Lady Colonels were picked in the top spot by region coaches who are members of the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association. According to their website, eight of the region’s 15 head coaches were eligible to cast a preseason vote.

Christian County (37-5) was followed in the top five by Madisonville (16-9), Caldwell County (18-12), Webster County (18-10) and Trigg County (22-14).

The second five were Lyon County (17-14), Henderson County (9-16), Crittenden County (22-8), Hopkins County Central (13-12), and Union County (10-18).

The coaches picked Caldwell County as the sleeper in the region, and Lyon County as the favorite to win the All-A region title.

The top 12 players in the region as voted by the coaches were:

2. Karlie Keeney – Webster County
3. Tyler Shemwell – Christian County
4. Courtney Patterson – Madisonville
5. Katie Franklin – Caldwell County
6. Mashea Glover – Caldwell County
6. Sophie Margelot – Henderson County
8. Hannah Colbert – Trigg County
8. Bailey Woodward – Madisonville
10. Mykayla Spurlin – Madisonville
10. Jayda Perkins – Madisonville
12. Calista Collins – Lyon County
