The 2018 season was a tough one for the UHA Lady Blazers softball program. They only played 11 games on the season, thanks in part to bad weather throughout the spring. They went 1-10 in those games, with their only win coming over Fort Campbell. They were shutout four times in the 11 games, and gave up double digit runs in nine of the eleven games.
With the arrival of the 2019 season, comes several “news”, including a new coach and new optimism for the program. Jordan Grace takes over the helm of the Lady Blazer program and will look to get things headed in an upward direction.
The hopes for the Lady Blazers this season will start with senior Rachael Snyder. Snyder will be expected to provide leadership for UHA, anchor the infield at shortstop, and provide some key innings in the circle.
One of the problems for the Lady Blazers last season was giving up easy runs, and consistency from the pitcher’s position will go a long way towards turning that around. Snyder and Regan Pollard are expected to see most of the action in the circle for the Lady Blazers. Pollard led UHA with 16 strikeouts last season.
Defensively, the Lady Blazers appear to be solid in the infield, with Pollard and and Snyder to see infield time when they are not in the circle. Mallory Ladd and Katie Beth Stevens will also be in the infield. Stevens came out late in the season in 2018 and will see more play at first base for UHA this season.
UHA will be young in the outfield, so development there would be key to seeing improvement in 2019.
The schedule appears to be a competitive one for the young Lady Blazers, with matchups against Fort Campbell, Hopkinsville, Christian Fellowship, Dawson Springs, Todd Central, and McLean County.
