Trigg County knew coming into the 2019 softball season that the top of their lineup would be the table-setters for the offense. In their season opener Tuesday, it was the bottom half of the lineup that provided the offense in their 4-2 road win at Stewart County, Tenn.

Kara Southwood had two hits and an RBI, and her younger sister Alyssa Southwood had a double. Catcher Ashlyn Keller added an RBI to account for the four Trigg County hits.

Logan Darnall reached on an error to lead off the game and scored when Autumn Durham’s sacrifice bun was thrown into right field. Durham scored on a Rylee Hendricks groundout for a 2-0 Trigg lead.

Trigg added a run in the third when Alyssa Southwood doubled into right centerfield and scored when her sister doubled in the exact same spot.

Trigg added an insurance run in the top of the sixth when Hannah Colbert walked, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Keller’s single to center field.

In the circle, Colbert allowed a first inning single and then held the Rebels hitless until the sixth. Smith led off the inning with a single, and Lilly Sanders followed with a line drive home run to center field.

Colbert struck out the side in the seventh as part of her 13-strikeout night. She allowed just four hits and walked two. Trigg County played errorless ball behind her.

Trigg County (1-0) will travel to Lyon County (1-1) Thursday in a showdown of Fifth District favorites.
