Sumner Blanks Russellville as Trigg Rolls 15-0 in Baseball Opener

Colton Sumner shut out Russellville on two base hits and the Trigg County Wildcats won their baseball opener on Tuesday, routing Russellville 15-0 at the Trigg Recreation Complex.

Sumner, a junior, struck out seven and walked none. He required just 46 pitches to get through the four-inning contest.

Meanwhile, the Trigg offense needed only seven base hits to put 15 runs on the scoreboard, with Russellville pitching offering up nine walks while the Panther defense also committed five errors.

Arlon Butts was 2-for-4 and drove in five runs to lead the Wildcat offense, which put up six runs in each of the second and fourth innings. Trigg also scored three times in the third inning.

Jacob Kent was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice. Hayden Cunningham was 1-for-1 and knocked in two while Trevor Cortner and Jude Hunter each had singles.

Daylan Roberts and Khristian McCall each had singles for Russellville (0-2).

Trigg returns to action on Thursday with a trip to 5th District foe Lyon County.
