We are a couple of days into the season, and you can already see that this could be a very interesting high school softball season in the 2nd Region. Already some shuffling in the softball “Super 7” and it is likely to continue throughout the course of the season. The question becomes whether or not any of the teams can threaten the top two at some point over the spring.
Christian County (2-0) – Two easy wins in their first two games of the season, no surprise for the defending regional champions. A bit more interesting on the horizon with games against Caldwell, O-Cath, Marshall County, and Trigg County coming up. We will know more about the defending champs in the next week.
Madisonville (1-0) – The Lady Maroons were impressive in their season opening 13-1 win over Lyon County. Will find out more about this team over the next week after matchups with Owensboro Catholic, Apollo, and Caldwell County. Keep your calendars marked for the games against Christian County.
Webster County (1-0) – The Lady Trojans rolled past Muhlenberg County in their opener. Webster may not be tested much until a two day span on April 11 and April 12, when they take on Henderson County and Madisonville in back-to-back showdowns.
Henderson County (2-0) – Are the Lady Colonels from the north on the way back to where they used to be? That is still to be determined, but a road win at Caldwell County and a home shutout win over Hancock County, who won the 3rd Region All A in 2018, and had 22 wins, is a good start to the 2019 season.
Caldwell County (0-1) – A tough loss at home to Henderson County opened the season. And there will be no break for the immediate future for the Lady Tigers. Over the next few days, games against Christian County, Owensboro Catholic, and Madisonville are on the the horizon. Lady Tiger fans hoping a tough early schedule pays dividends down the line.
Trigg County (1-0) – The Lady Wildcats opened with a win on the road at Stewart County. This team is now about to find out just where it stands early in the season with a brutal run that includes Lyon County, Logan County, Warren East, South Warren, Franklin-Simpson, and Marshall County. Talk about your tough stretch.
Lyon County (1-1) – The Lady Lyons opened with a big win over Murray, then had the tables turned on them by Madisonville. However, the Lady Maroons will likely to that to several teams this season. This team will learn a bunch about itself over the next week with a game against Trigg and then an appearance in a very tough event at Franklin-Simpson.
