Crittenden Blasts Trigg to Force Logjam Atop District Softball Standings

Chaos has officially taken over in the Fifth District softball race, with three teams now tied atop the standings at 1-1. One night after losing to Lyon County 17-9, Crittenden County busted out their own whooping sticks on Trigg County in an 11-1 win at the Complex Tuesday. Trigg, Crittenden, and Lyon County are all 1-1 in district play.

The Lady Rockets overcame a 1-0 deficit with eight runs in the fourth inning. Kalli Champion and Matthia Long each had two-run triples in the inning that also included a walk and two Trigg errors. Champion finished the game with three hits and two RBIs, and Long and Brandy Book each had two hits and two RBIs.

Crittenden outhit Trigg by just one (9-8), but the Lady Wildcats committed five errors that led to seven unearned runs.

Trigg County’s lone run came in the third inning via their middle schoolers. Seventh grader Rylee Hendricks doubled and scored ahead of eighth grader Alyssa Southwood’s single. Hannah Colbert added a single and double for Trigg.

Jenna Potter picked up the win in the circle. She allowed eight hits and struck out three without walking a batter. Colbert took the loss. She struck out five and walked one.

Crittenden County improved to 3-5, while Trigg County dropped to 3-4. The Lady Wildcats will host West Creek, Tenn. Thursday, while Crittenden County will host Livingston Central in the district opener for the Lady Cardinals.
