Wyatt Stevenson has kept the faith. The Christian County All-State baseball player committed to the University of Louisville before his junior season in 2018. After helping lead the Colonels to the region title and a state tournament appearance, he underwent surgery for a herniated disc. Through it all, he kept the faith through his family, coaches, and teammates. And Louisville kept their faith in Stevenson.
Wednesday, Stevenson made his college choice official and signed with Louisville, saying he never waivered on his original commitment.
Stevenson hit .373 for the Colonels with three home runs and 31 RBIs. One of his homers came in the state tournament loss to Paintsville. 14 of Stevenson’s 31 hits went for extra bases.
He also posted a 5-3 record on the mound with a 2.86 ERA. He struck out 75 batters in 49 innings with only 21 walks issued.
Stevenson did a lot of his work with an ailing back that caused him to undergo surgery and miss a potentially important summer on the travel circuit. He has rehabbed his back and has slowly worked himself back into playing shape for his senior season.
He said Louisville will likely have him penciled in for a corner infield slot. But first things first. Stevenson is looking to get back to the state tournament and lead the Colonels further than the first round.
