Going into the top of the 5th inning, it looked like the Christian County Lady Colonels might be in danger of losing for the first time in the 2019 season. That look, however, did not hang around for long. The Lady Colonels scored 13 runs over two innings, nine in the 5th, and four more in the 6th inning, to rally for a 15-6 road win over the Calloway County Lady Lakers.
Christian County used doubles from Tenley Gilbert, Emmy Blane, Tyler Shemwell, and Reni Shemwell, to spark the beginning of the rally in the top of the 5th inning. The Lady Colonels went from down 6-2, to leading 11-6.
Christian County added insurance in the top of the 6th inning. The big blow in the inning was a 3-run homer off the bat of Tenley Gilbert. By the end of the inning, the Christian County lead was up to 15-6.
The Lady Colonels got big nights from Pickle Winkler, Tyler Shemwell, and Tenley Gilbert. Winker was 3-5 with a double, 3 RBI’s, and two runs scored. Shemwell ended up 3-4, with three doubles, three RBI’s, and two runs scored. Gilbert was 2-3, with a home run, 3 RBIs, and three runs scored.
Riley Hancock, Kelsey O’Daniel, and Gracie Harned all saw time in the circle for Christian County. The trio combined to give up six runs, just four of them earned, on 11 hits, striking out five, while walking just one.
